Are you having a rough day? Things not going your way? I’m not sure about any of you, but I am not much of a morning person. I would rather not have to get up early and sleep longer. I’m usually up between 5:30-6:00 in the morning on the weekdays. There are often times when I go throughout the day feeling like I could really use some improvement. Everyone wants to feel good, right?! Check out some of these top ways to improve your day.
- Get your clothes ready the night before. This isn’t going to take you much time, but when it comes to the morning, you’re going to be glad you did this. I am not a morning person, and having my clothes and my daughters clothes out the night before helps out a lot.
- Drink Water. By now we all know that drinking water is important. This can be very helpful in having a better day too. You’ll feel more energized throughout the day.
- Exercise. This is another very important one. Exercising at least 30 minutes a day can be very helpful. It will help you feel better and more energized throughout the day as well.
- Listen to some music. Turn up your music and just listen and let loose. This is a great way to reduce stress too. It can even lower blood pressure.
- Organize. Keeping things organized can help with your day too. I hate to be unorganized, and if I am, I make sure to organize when I can. I feel like I’m in a better mood when everything is more organized.
- Get enough sleep. We all know how important this is, but how many of you get the recommended 8-9 hours of sleep a day? Probably not as much as we should. This can really help improve your day if you get the amount of sleep you need each day.
- Cut out the negative people/things in life. If someone is pulling you down, there not worth your time. They’re just going to make life harder. Get rid of all that negativity. You don’t need that in life. It’s only going to make things harder on you.
- Take some time for yourself. I’ve always found this to be very important. Take a break once in a while and enjoy the time with yourself. Walk around some and just relax.
- Eat a healthy breakfast. Every day you should start off by eating a good breakfast. Your mood could be off because of the foods you eat. Try to eat a healthy breakfast to help with your mood.
- Think Before you act. Often people don’t think before they act. Many feel bad after they have done something because they didn’t think about it first. Before saying something you may regret, think about it and how it may affect someone before you say it.
- Count to 10 if you feel angry. If you feel like you’re going to get angry or upset, stop and count to 10. Getting upset can just make your mood get worse. Try to relax and stay calm.
- Take a bath. Taking a bath is always relaxing. I try to do this at least once a month if not more if I can. It’s nice to just relax in a nice warm bath.
- Make meals a head of time. I’m sure we have all been there where we just don’t feel like making dinner. Try spending some time making meals a head of time. Making some meals that can be frozen is a great idea. That way you can grab them out of the freezer when you need them and make dinner that day. It’s a lot less stressful when you are not feeling like making dinner or don’t have much time for it.
- Compliment someone. This can help both you and the other person. This is a great way to boost someone else’s mood and make them happy. You’ll feel great about yourself as well.
- Spend time with friends/family. Spending time with friends and family is a great way to lift your mood. It’s always nice to catch up with someone too. It’s a great way to improve relationships as well.
- Watch what you eat. If you’re eating junk, that can affect your mood too. This can contribute to mood swings. Try to go for something healthier.
- Smile. Everyone loves to see a smiling person, right?! I know I do. Smiling can even uplift your mood, so smile more often!
- Laugh. This can always make someone in a better mood. I think it’s very important to laugh every day. It feels great to laugh too.
- Declutter. You’ll feel so much better if you get rid of all that clutter. You can even have a garage sale and try to make some money will all those items lying around your home that are not being use.
- Take a walk. Walking is a great way to reduce stress. This is my favorite form of exercise too. I love being outdoors while I take my walks. It puts me in a much better mood. It’s nice to just look around while you’re outdoors walking too.
- Give someone a hug. Everyone loves a hug, am I right?! This can be a great way to reduce your stress too. I always find it comforting when I give someone a hug.
- Read. This is a great way to relax both your mind and body. Find a great place to just sit down and relax with a good book. I’ve always enjoyed reading and I can say that it always helps me relax.
- Take a power nap. Don’t take a nap for to long though. That may make you feel more drowsy throughout the day. A good 15-20 minute nap is all you need. This has always helped me out during the day. I like to take short naps to feel better throughout the day.
- Play with a pet. Pets are a great way to help lower stress. I have three cats of my own and they always improve my day. If you don’t have any pets, check out an animal shelter. Those animals always love the attention too.
- Sing and dance. We all love to do this, right?! I’m sure many of you even do this in the shower or while cleaning. I certainly do and I love it! It always puts me in a better mood.
- Maintain a daily routine. If you follow a routine, you’re less likely to be stressed out. My routine each day is very similar. Weekends may be different though. Try to stick to a schedule so you’re not getting to worried or stressed out.
I hope that these are helpful to you and will help improve your day. What are some ways things that you do to improve your day?

You’re welcome, and I completely agree!
ALL very good suggestions! I think #7 is vital! “Cut out the negative people/things in life.” so many people can weight us down and pull against us. It is key that we have supporting friends, not necessarily those who instantly let us off the hook but that are kind and help us stay motivated!
Exactly. Nobody needs to have any negativity in their lives.

Yes, exercising is so great. I always feel better after I exercise.
These are fantastic tips! I think to me the most important one on this list is “watch what you eat”. While I’m a huge fan of sugar, candy, and chocolate, I find that the sugar crashes are getting harder as I get older and I generally don’t feel very good after eating loads of sweets.
I agree. I hardly ever feel good after eating anything “junk” related. I find that healthier foods always make me feel better.

I have been having an extremely rough week…right now I am waiting to hear if my aunt is surviving surgery that is removing her lung. Thanks for the tips on how to take a few moments to myself and brighten up this dreary day.
You’re welcome. I hope your aunt is doing well.
Great tips! I think the biggest thing that can bring me down quickly, is clutter. I definitely need a clean house to improve my day. If there are dishes in the sink and the floor needs to be washed, I’m frazzled!
I hate clutter. I need things to be more organized or I go crazy. haha.
I typically turn to music when I am having a rough day. It just seems to calm me down and keep me going. I always try to pick some uplifting music.
I will also color, play games on my phone, or go for a walk too.
Music is so great. It can always turn my mood for the better.
I’ve been getting active as of late. I’m in a step war with my girlfriends and we’re competitive. It has helped my sleeping habits.
That’s great! I love my fitbit for things like that. You can always challenge friends and it pushes you further.
I often smile during hard times in a day. I have found that even forcing it makes things roll off a bit easier.
It really does help!
As much as I put it off exercise always puts me in a better mood during the day. So exercise is my top selection in your list.
Yes, same here. I love to feel better during the day.
I need to get myself back to the gym. I feel so much better when I go.
Right! Exercising is so much better.
These are great tips. I know when I don’t prepare or anything, I’m running around hectic and everything irritates me! We try to get in the habit of laying clothes out the night before as well.
I have to have things ready or I’ll go crazy too.
I love these ideas! Taking time for yourself is so key and helps me!
Yes, most definitely!
Love your list and couldn’t agree more with everything that you’ve included. To add to it, it’s springtime so go out and enjoy the outdoors!
Yes, certainly. I love being outdoors.
isn’t it great that there are so many ways to improve a day? Love the list and I try to follow each and every one of those to make the best out of my days : )
Yes it sure is.
It’s really important to have a schedule. I cannot live without the schedule that I make before the week starts. It’s keeps me sane and it keeps me from procrastinating as well.
Right! I like to have some kind of schedule.
