Stress-free family driving might seem as rare as a pink unicorn, but it is possible when you keep a few little tips in mind. There is an inherent danger when driving under pressure, as it can shift focus away from the road. However, there are some tricks you can use to ease the tension. From keeping the car tidy and clutter-free to entertaining the kids, here are some of the best.

Keep Your Car Well-Maintained

A well-maintained car helps keep it in good condition for peace of mind on the road. When there are screaming kids and nightmare traffic, the last thing you need is a breakdown. So, keep an eye on tyre pressure, fluids, and of course, fuel and charge levels before heading out. There are many car dealerships proudly serving their communities, and buying from the most reputable will also increase the chances of a vehicle in good condition, so try to avoid the one-star lots!

Keep It Clean and Clutter Free

An untidy can isn’t just unsightly, it can be very dangerous too. Even clutter can cause an incident if you aren’t careful. For example, a stray baby bottle can roll under a pedal, preventing you from using it. A clean and tidy car can dramatically reduce the chances of something like this happening, giving you more peace of mind. However, a clean vehicle is also more enjoyable to drive, as well as making it easier to keep things organized for a longer trip with the children.

Stress-Free Family Driving with Planning

Driving can be stressful sometimes, especially at times such as the school run, where 80% of parents agree they can lose focus when driving due to the pressure. However, even for a short trip, such as the school run, a plan can make a massive difference. For example, you can check GPS tools before setting off to check where the bulk of traffic is. It may be time for a new car if you don’t have a GPS, as it can help you avoid some of the most infuriating things about driving!

Keep the Kids Entertained

Have you found yourself with a sore neck from bored kids kicking the back of your seat? Children get antsy very quickly when in the car, and they need some type of entertainment. In-car systems for streaming and playing DVDs can be a lifesaver. Or you could pass them a child-safe tablet to play games. However, if you aren’t comfortable with screen time, car games like I-Spy can be a welcome distraction when driving back from school or grocery shopping.

Don’t Forget to Schedule Breaks

No one really likes being stuck in a car for hours with no reprieve. When driving, you need to stay relaxed and calm, and taking breaks is a powerful way to keep up the motivation. When planning a family road trip, take some time to check the route for the best stops where you can eat, rest, and relieve yourself. This makes your trip more enjoyable from a stress perspective, but you can also entertain the kids by asking them to keep an eye out for your next stop.

Summary

Keeping your car well-maintained is a great first step to stress-free family driving and overall improved vehicle safety. However, a plan also makes a big difference, even on a short trip. For longer trips, it is vital that you check the route for family-friendly rest stops with food and fun.
