Movie #24 is Stand by Me

If you have been following along my movie journey, you’ll know that my daughters and I are watching movies from a list I made. You can check that list out HERE if you’d like. There are a ton of movies on this list that I plan to watch with my daughters. These were movies I watched growing up, so I want them to experience these movies as well. We all sit down as a family each week and pick out a movie. We don’t always get to watch one a week, but we try.

About Stand by Me

In a small woodsy Oregon town, a group of friends–sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O’Connell)–are in search of a missing teenager’s body. Wanting to be heroes in each other’s and their hometown’s eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss ’cause it’s cool and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town’s knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had. Stand by Me is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experiences of growing up. Filled with humor and suspense, Stand by Me is based on the novella ‘The Body’ by Stephen King.

I had already seen the movie Stand by Me, but my daughters haven’t. This was a favorite movie of mine growing up, so I thought it would be great for my daughters to be able to see it as well. I could always remember the campfire scene in the movie, so I decided to go with that theme, and have smores. We went with all kinds of chocolates for the smores as well as some smore cookies. It was the perfect way to watch the movie.

This movie is about a group of friends who are on the search for a missing kid. They discover a lot about themselves in just these two days that they’re together outside as well. They’ll learn to survive outdoors for a couple of days, and even run in to some other people, where they have to stand up for themselves. It’s about a journey of these guys, and it’s such a great movie. This is one that I will always highly recommend. I’ve always loved this movie.

Have you ever seen this movie before? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend watching it. I saw it for the first time when I was a kid, and I have loved it ever since. It’s a joy to be able to watch these movies with my kids now too. You can grab your very own copy off AMAZON too.

I just actually watched this for the first time. It is fun to go back and watch 80’s/90’s movies.
