Breaking Bad Habits for Good

17 March, 2026 by KatBp Leave a Comment

If you have habits that you just can’t seem to break, then you will know how frustrating this can be. You may feel as though nothing you end up doing makes a bit of difference, and that you simply can’t get to where you need to be. Either way, if this sounds like you, then this guide will help you to break those bad habits, so you can stop limiting your life.

Disrupt your Cues

When you understand your cues, you can then begin to throw your bad habits off track. If you have an alarm and this cues you to hit the snooze button so you can catch up on some more sleep, then you will know how frustrating this can be. If you want to help yourself, then you need to replace the bad habit with a good one. It may be that you try to make sure that you set your alarm and then put your phone across the room, as this is a good way for you to not only get up and walk over to your alarm, but it also wakes you up a little, so you think twice before snoozing it. If you find that you reach for chocolate bars every time you’re hungry, put fruit in their place, and you may find that your autopilot habit is disrupted. This concept can be related to other bad habits, too, like smoking. If you smoke, then trying new things like vaping can help. Just make sure that you are taking the time to choose a vape that suits you, rather than just buying any one. There are a lot of options out there, and it could be a good way for you to break your habits once and for all.

Keep Things Simple

Another good thing to do is to try to keep things simple. It’s usually very difficult for you to change a habit because the behaviour may become somewhat automatic. Your brain might not have taken over the new habits you are trying to implement yet, and this can make things challenging for you. If you want to make things more long-term for yourself, then try to make sure that you focus on the bigger picture while setting small milestones. Celebrate the small bits of progress you make, and remember why you are trying to invest the effort into making a change.

Persist

Research has shown time and time again that what you have done will probably influence what you are going to do next. If you have failed, it’s too easy to think that you will fail again for this reason alone, but that’s not really true. If you want to help yourself, a good thing to do would be for you to persist and not give up. If you can make sure that this is the case, and if you can try and make sure that you are pushing yourself in ways that are beyond what you might think you’re capable of, then this will help you, and it will also help you to steam ahead of the competition.
