Decluttering Tips Guide

28 April, 2020 by KatBp 54 Comments

This is a guest post

Decluttering your house or even just one room in your house can be very overwhelming. This might have been the reason why you have put it off for so long…you just don’t know where to start. This Decluttering Tips Guide will not only help you toss unwanted items but it will provide you with insight on how to maintain a clean, clutter-free environment.

Where Did This Clutter Come From?

Let’s begin by getting to the root of the problem. How did all this clutter happen? Over the years clutter accumulates, whether its childhood momentums, old clothes, or furniture. We often hold on to clutter because it holds a memory in our past that we don’t want to forget. In this case, we can take a picture and it will be with us forever. A common cause of clutter is if we have a habit of buying new items and not have the room to store them. By taking the time to declutter on a regular basis you’ll notice the items you have, you’ll find lost items that you were planning to rebuy. With consistent decluttering and organizing you’ll find yourself not buying as much.

Don’t Let Clutter Affect Your Productivity

When there is physical clutter in your surroundings it competes for your attention and therefore affects your performance and increases stress. Simply by reducing the amount of clutter on your shelves or even moving furniture, this can help you stay motivated, productive, and working efficiently.

Time To Get Moving and Decluttering

1. Schedule a residential friendly dumpster rental from a local company like Bin There Dump That to help you get the clutter out of your house completely.

2. Make a plan on which room to tackle first. Remember one at a time, so that you don’t overwhelm yourself.

3. Get the family involved and designate areas for the items you want to keep and sell/donate and of course toss the unwanted items right in the dumpster rental.

Questions for you to ask yourself while decluttering

A. Do you need it?

B. Does it have financial value?

C. Does it work?/Is it broken?

D. When did you last use it?

E. Lastly, ask yourself which you would prefer, the extra space or the item?

4. Pace yourself so that you enjoy the process. Go down memory lane and enjoy family bonding time.

Whether you are a newly empty nester or downsizing, this is the perfect opportunity to declutter. Get ready for a clutter-free life and not only improve your physical surroundings but your mental motivation and productivity.

Decluttering is something that hits home I am a hoarder and saver and my home desperately needs a dumpster or two to remove everything. Putting it off well that is my middle name and for now the clutter will stay but someday……

Now is a good time to declutter. I just hope people can give the items to someone who can use them

Those are great questions to ask. I need to finish decluttering our bedroom closet after moving several months ago. Just haven’t worked up the motivation.

I could definitely do with doing some decluttering, I am not good at letting things go, even if they are broken or I don’t use them. I need to get out of that habit.

I need to go through the kids toys and declutter. There are so many they don’t play with that we could give away. It’s always so hard on them though. They see me about to donate it then suddenly it becomes their favorite.

I’ve always hung on to everything, until recently. Now, I’m finding that that empty space is so much more desirable than all the stuff that once filled that space.
