DIY Holiday Tree Advent Calendar

1 December, 2017 by KatBp 50 Comments

I’m so excited for the holidays! There is always something magical about this time of year. I love to decorate my home for the holidays. This year we have been doing a lot of new and exciting holiday traditions. We started with elf on the shelf as well as gnome in my home. I’ve even started doing the advent calendars. I remember the ones that you could buy in stores that would have chocolates in them. I had those as a child each holiday. I bought some of them for my daughters this year as well. Although those are fun, I wanted to make my own advent calendar this year.

I decided to make this Christmas tree DIY Advent Calendar for my daughters.

First you’re going to want to start off with a piece of cardboard. Make sure it’s big enough to make the tree. It has to be long enough both ways. Once you have your cardboard, you can hot glue your bow on top. Make sure to leave enough room for the tree part.

Now you can start filling up your cups with items you want to use. My daughters love all small toys like Shopkins, so that’s what I decided to put inside the cups. I use Dixie cups because they work out great.

Once you have all the cups filled, you’re going to want to grab some tissue paper and the cups.

You want to wrap the tissue paper around the cups.

Next you want to take a rubberband and place it around the tissue paper and cup.

After doing that, you’re going to start using the hot glue for the bottom of the cups. You want to start forming the tree. Once you hot glue them, you want to immediately put them on the cardboard to form the tree.

You can continue to hot glue til you completely finish the tree. It should look similar to the photo above.

After you’re finished with that, decorate it the way you want it. I added the numbers in on each of the cups. You can always decorate it with all kinds of things. Get creative! It’s such a fun and simple way to make an advent calendar.

Have you ever made an Advent Calendar before?

That is super cute! I love the idea of making a homemade advent calendar. It keeps the feeling personal instead of just being another thing we buy at the store.
