This Earth Day Choose to Reuse and End Disposable Dependency

18 April, 2019 by KatBp 46 Comments

Earth day is coming up on April 22nd. My daughters and I usually pick up trash on Earth Day, or at least around Earth Day. We love keeping the environment clean by picking up trash. We know that trash is extremely dangerous to be left outside, especially for the animals. We have a lot of chickens and ducks at our home, so we are always careful about making sure to clean up after ourselves. We’ve noticed the wind seems to blow a lot of trash in our yard at times, so we try to get out there and clean as much as possible. We’d hate for something to ever happen to our chickens and ducks. Same goes for our cats since we do let them outdoors when they want to go outside. Earth Day is such an important day for me, and I hope it is for you as well.

Get ready to step up and make a pledge to use reusable containers instead of disposable ones whenever, and wherever, possible for 30 days starting on Earth Day 2019. I know that making the pledge may be difficult, but I certainly am ready for this! I’ve already been trying my best to use products that are recyclable. Ever since I was little, I loved to recycle. Still to this day, I’ll recycle whatever I can. I’m very excited for this challenge, and I know that I can do it! This is extremely important because our children and grandchildren are counting on all of us to set an example that future generations can follow.

Choose To Reuse Staggering Statistics:

– Every minute a million plastic bottles are bought around the world (1)
– Not even half the plastic bottles sold in 2016 were turned in for recycling, and only 7% of
those were used to create new bottles (2)
– It takes more than 400 years for plastic to degrade (3)
– By 2025, the ratio of plastic to fish in the ocean could be one to three, and by 2050, it’s
expected that the weight of plastics in ocean will surpass the weight of fish in the ocean
(4)
– 91% of the 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic that’s been produced has not been recycled
according to a study published in late 2018 in the peer-reviewed journal Science
Advances.
– Half of all plastics become trash in less than a year, the same study found.

The flexible straw can accommodate any drinking angle, which is great for the large 20-ounce tumbler. Made of durable stainless steel, the tumbler is completely BPA free and built to last. Hand washing is recommended, do not microwave.

I am working on reusing more things. I do have a water bottle I re-use so I don’t have to buy plastic. I admit, I do prefer plastic straws though, but I’m trying to find a metal one I like.

I need a new water bottle. The ones I have are all kind of cheap and are falling apart. I think I need to get something like this to keep them from breaking.
