Our Experience With Hatchimals

5 January, 2017 by KatBp 48 Comments

I am sure by now you have all heard about Hatchimals. My daughters were just like a lot of other kids, and they wanted one of these. I honestly didn’t want to spend a lot on these, and I thought it was crazy that everyone was buying them and reselling them at high prices. I unfortunately couldn’t get one of these for my daughters for Christmas. They were sold out everywhere, and the only place to get them was online at a ridiculous price. I told my girls I would look for one after Christmas and we’d see if we could get them one or not.

I lucked out after Christmas and found one on the shelves at Walmart. There was a lady stocking toys, and had told me she had found it hidden on another shelf. We were lucky to be able to get this one. I told my girls I would get the one, but they would have to share it. They agreed, so I ended up buying the one for them. I had some doubts because of some of the reviews it was getting from parents about them taking forever to hatch, some were not hatching and some even said they were swearing. I got it anyways to see how it was.

As you can see, my girls were so happy to finally get a Hatchimals. They kept grabbing it and holding it while we were in Walmart where I had found it. They actually sat nicely in the cart and kept holding it. They were so excited! Of course I was extremely happy to see how excited and happy they were too.

As you can see, it’s just in the shape of a big egg. We ended up getting a pink egg, which had a penguin in it. There are many different types of these eggs. Depending on which color you get, it will have a different kind of animal in it. My girls didn’t care what they got as long as they were able to get one.

Once we got the egg out, we were able to start rubbing it to get it to hatch. I made sure my girls were taking turns so that they could each rub it.

Once they started rubbing the egg, the eyes would show different colors. There are different eye colors for different moods. The Hatchimals could be hungry, angry, sick and many more!

After about a half hour, the egg started to hatch. The girls got very excited when it started to hatch. It was really neat to watch it too.

You could start to see the Hatchimals inside the egg.

My girls were very excited about the color of their Hatchimals. My youngest said that it was the exact one she wanted, so we were all happy about that.

Overall we had a great experience with our Hatchimals. My daughters were excited to watch it hatch, and they even played with it afterwards. They still love it now, and they take turns keeping it in their rooms each night. They’ll take it out to play with every now and then. I’m glad to see that they still are playing with it. I know that some kids say that they had gotten bored after it hatched.

I took a short video of the Hatchimals starting to peck its way through the egg, so you can watch that above too.

Do your kids have a Hatchimals? If so, how was your experience? Good? Bad? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

I think Hatchimals are really cool. My kids are a bit too old to have wanted one for Christmas, and I was kind of bummed about that. I think they’re cute.

I have heard so many conflicting reports on Hatchimals. My son was oblivious and didn’t ask. I guess being 12 and a boy, he wasn’t the target demo 🙂

My daughter is too old for this kind of stuff so I am happy I missed the craze. It seems like every couple of years there is a toy shortage and people sell it for high prices. I am glad you waited to get one when the heat died down.

My boys weren’t interested in the Hatchimals. I know a few friends got them for their kids. I was curious how they worked and if they were similar to the furby’s that we had many years ago.

They are so cute! I only heard about the Hatchimals when someone posted one for sale for 500$ in a Facebook garage sale group. The comments were hilarious! lol My son is not into them and my daughter is a bit too young. Maybe next year if they are still very popular!
