Does your family love to explore and travel? My family doesn’t get to travel often, especially now with the pandemic, but we love traveling when we’re able to do it. We also love to go out and explore. My daughters and I especially love to go outdoors and explore as much as we can. Tesla and I have been getting in to the Explorer Academy book series and it has been an adventure of its own. This book series is a lot of fun and will take you on a lot of adventures.
About Explorer Academy: The Nebula Secret (Book 1)
Adventure, danger, and a thrilling global mission await 12-year-old Cruz Coronado in The Nebula Secret. Cruz leaves behind his home in Hawaii to
attend the prestigious Explorer Academy, where he and 23 kids from around the globe will train to become the next generation of great explorers. But for Cruz, there’s more at stake. No sooner has he arrived at the Academy than he discovers that his family has a mysterious past with the organization that could jeopardize his future. In the midst of attending cool classes, participating in augmented reality expeditions, and making new friends, he must tackle the biggest question of all: Who is out to get him… and why?
Encouraging Reading
I encourage reading in my home a lot. Tesla (my youngest) and I are the big readers in our household. We could probably sit and read all day if we had the chance. We are very big on reading and we love it. The Explorer Academy books have been a wonderful addition for us. We’re able to sit down and read this series together. It’s great for bonding as well. Since we both love to read, being able to read the series together has been wonderful. It’s a great opportunity to read together as a family.
National Geographic Explorers
This book series is a fiction series, but the stories were inspired by real-life adventures of real National Geographic explorers. Some of these discoveries that are mentioned in the book may not actually be as crazy as you may think. Some of those include Emmett’s color-changing, shape-shifting glasses and Cruz’s mom’s robotic origami journal. As you read through these stories, you may notice some of the adventurers that were inspired ideas for Cruz’s future world too.
We love that there is so much adventure in these books. If your kids love books with lots of adventure, I think this would be a wonderful series for them to check out. There are currently five books in the series. Explorer Academy books 1–5, The Nebula Secret, The Falcon’s Feather, The Double Helix, The Star Dunes, and The Tiger’s Nest. These books also teach the value of friendship, family, loyalty, and trust. They also combine STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), geography, and other subjects into an action-packed storyline. The books are recommended for ages 8-12. That doesn’t mean anyone can’t read them though! I enjoyed reading them along with my child, and I’m an adult. My daughter and I love connecting through books.
We love that they have these amazing photos in the book as well. It really helps bring the story to life. Both of my daughters still enjoy books with photos in them. They say it helps connect more with the story. It’s nice to see chapter books with some kind of photos in them, but not to many. We really enjoy being able to see photos along with a story so that we can all visualize more and get a photo/idea of how the story goes. Sometimes photos can really connect with a story, so it was great to see those beautiful photos.
This has been wonderful being able to share reading with my daughter. It’s not often that we get to share books together like this. I enjoy being able to read with her, and I know she loves it when I read to her. Even though she is a great independent reader, she still loves being read to. I also enjoy being able to read with her, as it’s a great way for us to connect through a book. I’ve really enjoyed the time, and can’t wait to finish all of the books in the series.
Throughout the books, the explorers will travel to many different places. There are four main characters in these books, which are Cruz, Lani, Emmett, and Sailor. Each of them bring something different to the academy. Cruz just joined during the first book, Lani is a tech genius, when it comes to wearable tech, Emmett is a wizard, and Sailor is smart, brave, loyal and competitive. All the characters in the book have missions and code breaking to do, so it is really a fun adventure. You will also meet many others throughout the story, both good and bad.

Spring break is this week here and with the beautiful weather I need to plan an exploring session. I’ll have to see if there are any geocache groups in my area. I’ve never been but think it is a great idea and something fun to do.
