Making Moving Easier

13 September, 2013 by KatBp 8 Comments

Planning on moving? There are a few tips I can give you to  make it easier to move and save money as well. I know some people like to wait to move until they know for sure that someone is going to buy their house. I wouldn’t want to move before knowing whether you had someone to buy your old house or not. Think about all the bills you’d still have to pay even if you were not even living in your old home. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to have to pay for somewhere you’re not even living in anymore.

One great thing you can do to get ready for your move is to declutter your home. This will make your move a lot easier. Think of all that junk you may have in your home that you no longer need. Throw that all away or give something to someone who may need it. Maybe you have a bunch of old clothes or other things that you no longer need. Sometimes having a garage sale or donating items really helps with your move. This way you have fewer items to move.

Another great way to make moving easier is to label your boxes. Put some numbers on the boxes and write down those numbers on a piece of paper and make sure to write down what’s in each box. Either that or you can always write exactly what’s in the box on the box. Maybe you have kitchen items in a box, then you can label that box kitchen. That way when you are unpacking all your stuff for the new house, you can tell which boxes go where.

You can also make sure to turn off all utilities the day after your scheduled move date. Also have your utilities turned on in your new place a day before you move in. This way everything is scheduled a head of time and you won’t have to worry about it.

What kind of tips do you have for making moving easier? Any new tips to add to the list?

Thanks for all the great tips. I vowed that I would never move again until I could afford to pay someone to pack and unpack for me.

We moved in the Spring & I’m doing all of my decluttering now. I had tried to keep the packing organized but then everyone (small children included) started throwing things in boxes & it spiraled out of control from there. I can only imagine the headache I could have saved if it had all gone step by step like the tips.

I’m weird in the fact that I love to move. One day, I’ll settle down and stay in one place. Maybe…
