Movie #19 is Harriet the Spy

If you have been following along my movie journey, you’ll know that my daughters and I are watching movies from a list I made. You can check that list out HERE if you’d like. There are a ton of movies on this list that I plan to watch with my daughters. These were movies I watched growing up, so I want them to experience these movies as well. We all sit down as a family each week and pick out a movie. We don’t always get to watch one a week, but we try.

About Harriet the Spy

When precocious 11-year-old Harriet (Michelle Trachtenberg) sets out to sharpen her espionage and writing skills by investigating her schoolmates’ and neighbors’ lives and keeping a detailed (and brutally honest) journal of her observations, she never imagines the trouble that ensues when her notebook falls into the hands of her “subjects.” Lively family film, based on the popular Louise Fitzhugh book, co-stars Rosie O’Donnell, Gregory Smith. 101 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English.

Harriet the Spy has been a favorite movie of mine for so long. I use to watch this a lot when I was a kid. Since she is a spy in the movie, or at least trying to be one anyways, I tried to think of some foods that would look like spy food. Many of these we used because we thought they looked like items a spy may use. For example, the longer items look like pens or pencils, while the pop tarts look like notebooks. Then you have the round items that we thought could kind of look like magnifying glasses pieces. It was a bit hard to come up with something for this one, but we did our best.

I’m so glad I was able to share this movie with my daughters. They enjoyed it as much as I did. It’s always great enjoying a movie with the whole family, especially when you get to show them movies you’ve seen as a child. This one is mostly about how Harriet is a spy and seems to spy on everyone. She has a couple of really good friends as well as a nanny. Overall it’s a really good movie. I’ve always loved it, and still love it to this day.

Have you ever seen this movie before? I’m sure many of you have probably seen this one, and if not, it’s worth watching, especially if you have kids. I think they’ll love seeing this movie. I know my kids sure did, and I’ve seen it before, but still enjoy it to this day. This is certainly one I’d watch again. You can even grab a copy off AMAZON if you’d like.

I don’t think that I ever watched this movie when I was growing up. It sounds like a good movie. I’ll have to check it out and watch it with my son.

The idea of using pop tarts as “notebooks” is so clever, and I can totally see how round items could resemble magnifying glasses.
