Ocarina Review

18 September, 2012 by KatBp 3 Comments

Do you know how to play any instruments? I used to play the recorder as well as the organ. I’ve played others before but never really knew what I was doing. I love all sorts of music. I was recently given the opportunity to try this musical instrument called the ocarina. Have you ever heard of this before? I’m guessing you haven’t. This was my first time hearing about the ocarina.

St. Louis Ocarina was established in 2005 to help revive interest in the art of ocarina playing. The ocarinas have appeared in major symphony orchestras with conductors such as Pierre Boulez and Michael Tilson Thomas. They have been used in performances with the New World Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and most recently, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in their holiday concerts.

I was sent the 6 Hole Legend of Zelda Potion Ocarina along with a book to help teach me how to play. I’ve always been fascinated with musical instruments. Although I never did play any instruments when I was in school. I wish I would have learned to play something in school. Well, now I have my chance to learn to play the ocarina. This is a very unique instrument and I’ve been having so much fun learning how to play it. It’s actually very simple once you start playing. You place your fingers on the holes and start to play by blowing the top of the ocarina, where there are three holes. It looks almost like a corkscrew on the top.

The book teaches you how to play the ocarina. There are a couple exercises in the beginning to help you learn how to blow into your ocarina. To get a good sound you need to make sure you’re blowing correctly. Next it will teach you how to move your fingers from one of the holes to another to make different sounds. Then you will start getting in to all the musical notes. I’m still memorizing all the right notes. I know it’s going to take some time but I’m excited to get better and maybe play a song!

They have many ocarinas to choose from. There are ones with four, six, eight, or twelve holes. They have many different shapes and they are all very unique. They even have necklaces. One thing I found to be very unique was the teacarina which is a cup and an ocarina.

If you’re looking for a unique way to make some music, you should look into the ocarina. I have never heard about this product until I was offered a review. Why not play an instrument that isn’t well-known and teach others about it. I know I can’t wait to show more of my family and friends the ocarina? I bet they won’t even know what it is!

Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for a review. My opinions are my own and may differ from those of your own.
