Have you ever seen any of The Boogeyman movies? I remember growing up and watching some of these. I loved to see these horror movies. There were so many times when many kids would think the boogeyman was under their beds. When I heard about the newest Boogeyman movie coming out, I was very interested. I’ve loved watching these, so it was great being able to see the newest one too. I absolutely loved this one as well. It’s a great one to see if you love horror movies or have also loved watching the other Boogeyman movies too.

I thought it would be fun to show you all how to make your own DIY moon lamp. Sawyer sleeps with her moon lamp at night, and carries it around a lot. It’s a great light for those who may want more lighting in their rooms. I know many kids get scared of the dark too, so it’s nice to have something to light up the room at night when they’re going to bed. This moon lamp is a simple yet fun DIY project.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Balloon
- Paper Towels
- Paper Mache Paste (or make your own. I use flour and water. You can use the 1:2 ratio, so 1 cup flour, 2 cups water. You probably won’t need that much though, so you can probably half it and do 1/2 cup flour and 1 cup water.)
- Flameless Tea Lights or Fairy Lights (your choice)
TOOLS:
- Paintbrush
- Bowl
- Spoon (to stir paste if making yourself.)
- Duct Tape ( or something to set your balloon on while working. I find duct tape works best.)
- Pin (to pop the balloon.)
HOW TO MAKE THIS MOON LAMP
The first thing you want to do is make your paste. If you already have ready made paste, you can skip this step. For this you should only need about 1/2 cup of flour and 1 cup of water. This also depends on the size you’re making, but this should be plenty for a balloon. You want to put the paste in the microwave on 30 seconds. Do this about 2-3 times or until it gets thick. Don’t let it get to thick though.
Now you can blow up the balloon. The size really depends on how big or small you want it. Blow up the balloon however you’d like.
Now you can get your paper towels ready. I found some paper towels that had a lot of circles because I thought this would be best for my moon lamp. Use whatever you’d like texture wise or look wise. I find paper towels to work the best. All you have to do is rip them in to smaller pieces so that you can put these around the balloon.
Now you can start covering the balloon in the paste, Then put the paper towel pieces on the balloon where the paste is. This will help it to stick around the balloon. You will want to do more layers too, not just the one layer. You can kind of guess how many layers to do, but I’d do a few at least.
Once you have a few layers, make sure to cover the rest of it in the paste. Now you can just set it down and wait for it to dry. This is where I use the duct tape to have the balloon sit on top of while it dries. I would wait for it to dry for about 24 hours. Sometimes it may take longer, and it may not take as long. Mine ended up taking longer than 24 hours to dry.
Once it’s fully dry, you can use the pin to pop the balloon. You should be able to grab the balloon out after popping it too. If for some reason it get stuck, it doesn’t really matter, you can just leave it there too. It happens sometimes.
I personally like to use fairy lights inside my moon lamp. You can use whatever you’d like. A flameless tea light works great as well. Sometimes others like to use light bulbs to attach to it as well, but personally, I like to use something that requires batteries instead of being plugged in. I really like the way the fairy lights work with this moon lamp too.
Now you’re good to go! You can attach the lights inside if needed. You can even make a bottom for it as well. I personally just like to let it sit the way it is. In the movie, Sawyer brings her light around with her and sleeps with it, so it’s nice to have something like fairy lights if your child may like to keep it close by too.

Instructions
- First you want to blow up your balloon to the size you'd like. You'll also want to make the paste if you don't have any. To make the paste, you'll need about 1/2 cup flour and 1 cup water. Now put it in the microwave on 30 seconds. Do this between 2-3 times. Don't make it to thick though.
- Now you want to get your paper towels out and start ripping or cutting them in smaller pieces. It doesn't really matter what size they are. Just make sure to cut them up in pieces. You can see from my pictures about the size I'd use.
- Next you can start using the paintbrush to dip in the paste and cover the balloon in. Put the paper towel pieces all over the balloon. The paste will help it stick. Do a few layers of this too. Make sure to cover your final layer in the paste as well.
- You now want to let it sit and dry for at least 24 hours. The time really depends on how big or small you made your moon. Mine took more than 24 hours, but yours could be less or even more.
- Once you have let it dry, you can now take the pin and pop the balloon. Take the balloon out if you can, but if it got stuck and won't come out, that's okay too. Sometimes this could happen.
- Now add in your lights. I personally love fairy lights, so that's what I wanted to use. I think they're the easiest to work with. You could always set down a flameless tea light and put the moon over it as well. I think the fairy lights look really nice though. You can take them inside too if you'd like. That's about all there is to it. A simple, yet fun moon lamp!
