What Children Need to Learn to Read Giveaway

11 May, 2013 by KatBp 3 Comments

I’m helping out another blogger with this giveaway. If you’ve got children then this would be a great giveaway for you. This is for a book about what children need to learn to read. My kids really love to read books. Good luck to everyone!

Munchkin 2 is 3 and LOVES books.  I was thrilled when I was able to review What Children Need to Learn to Read by Michelle Vallene.  This book is full of great tips to help your child learn to read and develop a love of reading.  Munchkin 2 already has a great love of reading but she does not yet know how to read.  This is not surprising since she is only 3 but it has been a struggle because she has been slower in developing her speech patterns.  Although she knows the words she is behind a bit with her speech than many other children her age and often hard to understand.  Although many do not see the connection between speech and reading because forming words with your mouth is different than forming them in your head.  This is not necessarily true.  If the child has a great understanding of the word in their head they will be better able to understand how to form the word with their mouth because they are familiar with how it sounds.

Using the tips and tricks along with the games, songs, and rhymes have helped me understand better not only how to help Munchkin 2 learn to read but improve her speech patterns as well.  Friends and family are much more able to understand her speech now than they were two months ago.  Part of this is to be attributed to maturing in age but much of it is because of the work we have been doing with the help of What Children Need to Learn to READ.  This book is amazing!

The book is not the only gem though.  The CD I got with the review was so fun.  It had many familiar songs and rhymes as well as new ones that were compiled by Michelle Vallene’s daughter, Brianna Vallene.  We had fun sings the songs and saying the rhymes that we knew and trying to learn the new ones.  Some of thesongs included Rain, Rain Go Away, Jack & Jill, and No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (one of our favorites).  Although she can not form many of the words, her brain was still absorbing the words and she was able to try to form the words and definitely had the pattern of the melody.  She has a blast.  Even Munchkin 1 got in on the fun.

What Children Need to Learn to Read and the What Children Need to Learn to Read CD are something I think every parent should have from the birth of their child.  This book is an important resource for any parent to have.

I don’t have any issues with teaching them to read. Started young and read with them so it is something natural for them.
