WORX Lawn Dethatcher Eliminates Raking By Hand

With the weather finally starting to warm up, we’re able to get outdoors more. Now is the time to start doing more yard work as well. My husband and I are always doing yard work, especially keeping up with the grass and making sure it’s cut and looking well. Of course that also means raking up the yard to make sure all the grass clippings are cleaned up and such. Instead of actually raking, we have been using the WORX dethatcher, which does a great job at getting some of the grass cut up and eliminating all the raking, which is so helpful.

Details:

  • Lightweight dethatcher with a 3-position depth-adjustment to adjust to any lawn.
  • Collection bag included to capture dead grass shoots, stems, and roots after being trimmed.
  • Easy fold-down handle for convenient storage.
  • Lock-off switch to stop work quickly.

Eliminate Raking

Raking can be such a chore and a lot of hard work too. With this WORX dethatcher, it helps get the job done a lot faster, and it’s less work too. If you hate raking like I do, you may enjoy using this dethatcher as well. Raking can give you great exercise, but it can also cause backaches too. I’m speaking from experience as well. I’ve often gotten bad backaches from having to rake. Also, renting a gas-powered dethatcher is another option, but these machines are heavy and awkward to maneuver and if you don’t own a truck or trailer, you may be renting one to haul the dethatcher to the worksite.

It’s nice that it came with this clip that can help keep the cord back. That way it doesn’t get in your way while you’re working. It also helps keep it plugged in as well. If you don’t use this clip, the plug in is most likely going to fall out. We tried it without it, and it kept falling out, so I recommend using the clip. It really does help out.

Simple to Use

The dethacher is very simple to use. You have to start by plugging it in. Having extension cords is nice so that you have more room to actually use it. The more extension cords you have plugged in, the more room you will have to move around of course. That all depends on how big of an area you need to actually do. We have a pretty big yard, so having a few extension cords works well for us. One thing I will say, is that it works best on level ground. Our yard is not the most level, and it worked best on the spots that were more level. It will still work on those that are not, it just takes more pushing to get the job done.

Collection Bag

You can easily catch thatch and debris with this detachable, 0.9 bushel collection bag. It makes it very easy to dispose of as well. I love how easily it can catch everything. Once it fills up, you can detach it and dispose of it however you want. It makes it so much easier to get it all cleaned up. Usually when we rake it up, we have to put it all in bags just to get rid of it. This makes it easier because it’s already in a collection bag, and all I have to do is dump it to where I want it to go. It’s that easy!

You can see how well it did in our yard. It did such a great job at collecting everything it needed. We could definitely see a huge difference as well. This dethacher has been so helpful. I’m amazed at how well it did in our yard. It’s nice to be able to have something that can help take out some of the hard work and make it easier. Our chickens love when we use this as well. They like to dig through the cut up grass, so it’s enjoyable for them too.

The 14″ dethatcher’s tines can be set at three different depths, so you can do light work for regular maintenance, or for yards that need more love, you can get down deep. This is really helpful depending on how your yard is. We like to do a deep job, so our yard usually needs more love when it comes to using the dethatcher. It’s nice to have that option of different depths so that you can actually switch it to what your needs are.

Comfortable Handle

It even had a comfortable handle that has a great grip. This grip absorbs vibration and allows you to maintain control. When using the dethatcher, press and hold down the safety lock-out button, while pulling back on the bale handle. Release the safety lock-out button and it’s ready to go. The dethatcher’s handle also folds down for space-saving storage.

For best results, you should dethatch lawns in spring or fall. This all depends on your thatch buildup. You should also mow the lawn first before using and do not use the dethatcher when the grass is  wet or damp, or when the grass is higher than 3 in. The WORX 12 amp,14 in. Dethatcher (WG850, $159.99), including thatch collection bag, is covered by the WORX three-year limited warranty. You can get your WORX dethatcher on their website on worx.com or other online retailers including walmart.com, homedepot.com and Amazon.

I have to get this for my husband! He’s out there every year with a rake trying to get up all the built up thatch.

Really liked my unit. Would have been better if handle was adjustable for shorter person like myself. After 2 years the electric doesn’t work anymore and the cost of repairs is almost as expensive as buying a new unit. Will be trying a different one this time around.
