3 Best Compact SUVs For Plenty of Cargo Space

15 May, 2026 by KatBp Leave a Comment

From grocery runs to long road trips, having a bit of extra cargo space is always going to be welcomed. A lot of today’s compact SUVs combine a manageable overall size with surprisingly spacious interiors, storage and practicality to help manage day-to-day life. Below are some of the best compact SUV options that make the most of all available space, so you can avoid upgrading to a larger, more oversized vehicle.

Subaru Outback

The 2026 Subaru Outback is a really versatile vehicle. Not only does it look good with its rugged looks, but it’s a solid off-roader. What makes the Outback a really great option for those seeking more space in a smaller, more compact car is its outstanding trunk capacity. 35 cubic feet of space in the back (with the seat up) and just over 80 cubic feet with them folded down. More than a lot of its fellow competitors.

It has an updated infotainment system that’s very user-friendly, and the interior feels spacious and comfortable, even when you do decide to take it off-road. With its most significant changes being on the exterior and interior compared to the last model, it very much feels like Subaru focused its improvements on more user-facing upgrades – and we can’t fault them for that. It’s a great choice for everyday family life or adventurers wanting to go off the beaten track.

Toyota Rav4

In 2025, the RAV4 was up there as one of the best-selling cars across the globe thanks to its mix of practicality, hybrid system and just Toyota’s overall reliability reputation. Interior wise it’s style is pretty tame yet is very practical with lots of storage everywhere you look. The whole inside feels very sturdy, like it was built to last for eternity, which you can’t fault them for. Trunk capacity is lower than the Outback’s, but it still has a generous 70.4 cubic ft of cargo room when the seats are down.

Another plus is that you can opt for a plug-in hybrid version, which is lacking elsewhere on the market. The electric range is pretty high for a hybrid with up to 85 miles electric only, thanks to a pretty decent size battery. Overall, it’s nothing ground-breaking, and considering the price, you might think of looking elsewhere – but if you want a good, practical, super reliable car, then it might be the one for you.

Volkswagen Tiguan

It’s pretty easy to see why this family-friendly compact SUV is so popular. It’s firstly just incredibly spacious and very practical for everyday life, so it’s understandable why it’s such a hit with families. We’re also used to standard spec cars being pretty poorly kitted out, but the Tiguan is the opposite, even at its base model, with some of the most modern infotainment systems and interiors on the market.

The biggest pro is its overall ride, soft and comfortable compared to other similar SUVs of its size and takes speed humps like nothing. Its trunk capacity is still up there, but still a bit smaller than competitors at 69.8 cubic ft with seats folded. So although it has slightly less trunk space than others, it is still a very usable, practical car for daily life.

So, if you’re looking for a new vehicle that balances space and overall size, these compact SUVs might offer the perfect solution. Models like these prove that you don’t need a full-size SUV to get all the room you need for family life, traveling and any other lifestyle needs.
