When you think of picturesque UK beaches in the South, Weymouth is sure to come to mind. Famed for its award-winning sandy beaches and 17th-century harbour, this really is a beach town worth falling in love with, especially when you look out at those breathtaking white-cliff views, which, on a clear day, give you a great view of the Isle of Portland right on the horizon.
It’s hardly surprising, then, that Weymouth might be a top choice when you’re considering a UK-based seaside break. But what if you want to head away for a week? Is there really enough here to keep the whole family happy? We think so. Keep on reading to find out why.
# 1 – Choose Family-Friendly Accommodation
A lot of your Weymouth experience will come down to your accommodation, but you’ll be pleased to hear that there are a plethora of family-friendly holiday parks here. Haven in Weymouth has to be the most iconic of these thanks to additions including an on-site adventure village, indoor and outdoor pools, and a bustling clubhouse complete with daily entertainment. But that’s not your only option. Many visiting families also enjoy accommodation as offered by companies like the Waterside Holiday Group, which has various locations across Dorset, and other similar options. Simply make sure your selection provides onsite amenities and plenty of entertainment, which can fill at least a few days of your holiday!
# 2 – Find Family-Friendly Activities
Obviously, you’ll want to head to Weymouth’s award-winning sandy beach at least a few times during your stay, but you’ll struggle to fill a whole week this way. That’s why it’s also worth looking out for attractions to ensure family adventure and fun every day. Luckily, there are plenty of options here, including Weymouth’s biggest fair, the Fantasy Island Fun Park at Bowleaze Cove, complete with bumper cars, ghost trains, and arcades. Weymouth is also home to a Sea Life centre, which you can access via a short seafront train ride, and which is home to an impressive 2,500 creatures spread across thirteen park zones.

# 3 – Explore the Surrounding Area
Remember that you also don’t have to stay in Weymouth for your entire week. In fact, there’s plenty to see in the surrounding areas, such as Chesil Beach, an astounding 18-mile natural shingle barrier that’s just a 17-minute drive from Weymouth itself. Surrounding towns like Dorchester are also well worth a visit, and are just a few miles outside of Weymouth. Dorchester is especially interesting for families with a keen passion for history, thanks to its ties to Thomas Hardy, and also its Roman roots, which can still be seen at locations like Maumbury Rings, a neolithic henge monument that’s over 4,500 years old. Equally, you could just head here for a spot of scenic shopping, and stop in family-friendly eating options like this Italian restaurant Dorchester before heading back to Weymouth for the night.
Worried about filling a week in Weymouth? You needn’t be with this top guide of things to see and do.
