DIY Valentine’s “Bugs & Kisses” Jars

17 January, 2017 by KatBp 64 Comments

Valentine’s Day is such a special day for many. A lot of loved ones love to spend time with each other on Valentine’s Day. I know a lot of you usually love to take your loved ones out to a special dinner. My husband and I usually stay home and just watch some movies together. I personally thing Valentine’s Day is really special for my children. I love to give them a valentine for Valentine’s Day. They always do the valentines cards at school as well, where they give everyone in their class valentines. They always have so much fun with that.

I wanted to be able to come up with something that I could make for my daughters this year. We have a lot of jars lying around, so I figured this would be a great chance to fill them up with some candy and make something for my girls. Since I already made these, they were able to see them, and I’ll tell you that my girls loved them a lot. They were really excited to see these jars.

What you will need:

  • Jars (any size you’d like)
  • Shoelaces
  • Gummy Worms
  • Hershey’s Kisses
  • Tags
  • Colorful Paper (for the lids)

The first thing you’re going to want to do, is to get out your jars. You can fill them with gummy worms and Hershey’s Kisses. I started with gummy worms and then did Hershey’s kisses. I kept switching so that it would look more like a mix of them. You can fill them however you’d like.

Next you’re going to want to get out the paper that you want to use for the lid. You can find a lot of different kinds of papers at craft stores. We had some valentine colored paper around, so we wanted to use some of that. What you’ll do, is take the piece of the lid off of the jar and you want to trace that on the paper.

Once you have it all traced, you can go ahead and cut that out.

Then you want to put that piece inside of the lid. This gives the top more of a nice valentine’s theme so it’s not so plain and boring.

You’ll still want to use the other piece of the lid after you put the cut out one in. That will still make sure to help the lid stay on and keep the paper from falling out as well.

Now you can take the lid and put it back on the jar.

Next you’re going to want the shoelace. You can put that around the jar underneath the lid.

Then you will want to tie the shoe lace in a knot/bow.

Next you’re going to work on the tag. You can find these tags at craft stores, or you can print some from home too. I usually just write the messages on mine. If they were printables, you could always use text online to get the text on the printables as well. I like to write mine to add my own touch to them.

After getting the wording on your tags, you can put them on the jar. There are a few ways that you can do this. I usually just stick my tags under the lids. They normally stay on easy that way. You could always punch a hole through the tag and string it through the shoelace as well.

My girls are happy with these jars. Once they got home from school, they saw them on the table and were very excited. These can make some great valentine’s gifts for anyone. It’s great for friends, family and even kids! I think everyone deserves a little something on Valentine’s Day.

Do you have any plans for Valentines Day this year? Are you going to be making anything special for someone?
