Movie #9 is The Big Green

If you have been following along my movie journey, you’ll know that my daughters and I are watching movies from a list I made. You can check that list out HERE if you’d like. There are a ton of movies on this list that I plan to watch with my daughters. These were movies I watched growing up, so I want them to experience these movies as well. We all sit down as a family each week and pick out a movie. We don’t always get to watch one a week, but we try.

About The Big Green

The biggest game in the world comes to the smallest town in America in this action-packed comedy about a group of bored misfits who become local soccer heroes. A winning family film from the people who brought you ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD, THE BIG GREEN will elicit big grins from the whole family! Nothing ever happens in Elma, Texas … at least not until British schoolteacher Anna Montgomery (Olivia d’Abo of THE WONDER YEARS) arrives. Determined to motivate her students, Anna decides to form a soccer team. She enlists the aid of out-of-shape sheriff Tom Palmer (Steve Guttenberg, THREE MEN AND A BABY), who agrees to coach the team so he can beat his old nemesis, the ruthless coach of the big city bullies, the Knights. THE BIG GREEN scores with parents as well as with kids, who learn the importance of being a team player … and a good sport!|One of the film’s “stars,” Ernie the goat, needed very little coaching for his scenes, which involved some of his favorite activities: eating paper, riding in a car, and running around the school track with the kids in the film.

You should know by now that we always have a snack board to go along with our movie, or at least some kind of snacks or food anyways. Since this movie is about soccer, this time we decided to try to do all foods that were black and white. Since a soccer ball is only black and white, that’s why we decided to go with this theme. We thought this would be a fun theme to try out. There were a lot of different foods (especially sweets) that were black and white too, so it wasn’t to hard to find those.

I watched this movie when I was younger, but my daughters had never seen it before. I thought they’d enjoy this one, and I was right, they sure did. This was another of my favorites. I love it when others can help students achieve something, and in this case, that is playing soccer. Most of these kids didn’t even know how to play soccer, or know much about it. The teacher was the one who started the team and began to help them play and learn more. She also got the sheriff to help out as well. A great movie to watch about good teamwork.

Have you ever seen The Big Green before? I’d love to know what your thoughts are on the movie if you have. As always, I’m glad my daughters were able to watch this one too. This is a movie I’ll always remember from when I was younger, and still remember today. You can grab the movie off AMAZON too.

Thanks so much for the lovely write-up about The Big Green! I watched this movie when I was younger, and I’m thrilled to share it with my kids now. Your themed snack board idea sounds like so much fun, we’ll definitely try that out!
