Smart Clothing Tips To Help You Look And Feel Good

22 June, 2026 by KatBp Leave a Comment

It’s interesting how some outfits can completely change how you feel about your day… After all, you put something on and suddenly feel more comfortable, more confident, or just more like yourself, but then there are those other outfits that spend the entire day distracting you because something doesn’t quite fit right, you’re constantly adjusting them, or you just don’t feel comfortable wearing them.

The thing is that looking good and feeling good are often connected because when you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, you tend to stop thinking about your clothes altogether, and that’s usually when you feel most confident. With that in mind, here are some simple clothing tips that can make getting dressed a little easier and a lot more enjoyable.

Have Good Basics

One of the easiest ways to improve your wardrobe is to make sure the foundations are doing their job properly, and not only is that a good idea, it’s a really easy one (and one that’s not going to cost an arm and a leg either).

When you think about it, a lot of people focus on buying exciting pieces, but the clothes that often get worn the most are the simple ones, including things like well-fitting jeans, plain T-shirts, classic shirts, comfortable knitwear, and versatile jackets. They’re the kinds of things that tend to form the backbone of countless outfits.

The good thing about basics is that they work with almost everything, which means getting dressed becomes a whole lot easier because you’re not trying to come up with an outfit from scratch every morning.

Buy Clothes That Actually Fit

This sounds obvious, but it’s surprising how many people hold onto clothes that don’t quite fit properly. It could be because they’re waiting to lose weight, perhaps the item was a bargain they couldn’t resist, or maybe they keep hoping it will somehow become more comfortable over time…

The reality is that clothes tend to look better when they fit well, and they usually feel better too. That’s why finding pieces that suit your shape and feel comfortable to wear can make a bigger difference than chasing every new trend that comes along.

Try Layering

Layering is one of those things that sounds more complicated than it really is, and at its simplest, it’s just about combining pieces in a way that adds a little more interest to an outfit. So you could wear a shirt under a jumper, a lightweight jacket over a dress, or a cardigan over a simple top, for example, and that can totally change the overall look.

The best part is that it’s really practical as well because the weather can be so changeable, and even if you think you know what it’s going to do it can throw in a few surprises, and having layers makes it easier to stay comfortable during the entire day.

Wear A Scarf

Scarves are really great because they’re the kind of accessory that make an outfit look and feel more finished, and what’s nice about them is that they don’t mean you’ve got to completely rethink your wardrobe because one scarf can completely change the feel of an outfit you already wear regularly.

Some people prefer bold colours, others like simple neutral tones, and some collect far more scarves than they probably need, but whatever your preference, they’re an easy way to add a bit of personality without much effort.

Don’t Ignore Your Shoes

People sometimes spend ages choosing an outfit and then throw on the first pair of shoes they see, but the thing is that footwear can completely change the overall feel of an outfit. For example, a simple dress can feel casual or smart depending on the shoes you wear with it, and the same applies to jeans, skirts, trousers, and just about everything else in your wardrobe.

Then there’s comfort to think about, and that’s important too because even the best outfit loses some of its appeal when your feet are hurting halfway through the day or you’re just wishing you’d picked something else.

Use An Outfit Finder App

Have you ever stood in front of a wardrobe full of clothes and somehow felt as though none of them worked together? Most people have.

That’s why tools like a what to wear app are getting more and more popular because they help people see combinations they might not have thought about before and probably never would have noticed. That’s great because sometimes the issue isn’t that you need more clothes, it’s that you’ve fallen into the habit of wearing the same outfits repeatedly, meaning that a fresh perspective can be very useful.

Stop Saving Your Favourite Clothes

One of the strangest wardrobe habits people have is keeping their favourite clothes for some future occasion, and although that does make a kind of sense, it also means that the nice dress stays in the wardrobe, the special jacket only comes out once or twice a year, and the outfit you genuinely love gets saved for a day that never quite arrives.

But life is happening right now, and you’re living it, and if something makes you feel good when you wear it, there’s a strong argument for wearing it more often rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity. Just basically wear it when you want and enjoy it!

Pay Attention To Colour

You don’t need to completely reinvent your wardrobe to benefit from colour – sometimes introducing one new shade can make a massive difference.

Perhaps there’s a colour you always receive compliments on, or maybe you’ve avoided certain colours for years without really knowing why, but either way, experimenting occasionally can help you discover combinations you wouldn’t normally consider, and of course, if you don’t like something, you can always go back to what you know works.

Wear Things That Feel Like You

Fashion advice can be helpful, but it doesn’t always suit everyone, and the reality is that some people love following trends, while others couldn’t care less about what’s currently fashionable. Neither of those types of people are wrong, as it happens.

That’s because what’s ultimately most important is finding clothes that feel comfortable, suit your lifestyle, and make you feel good when you’re wearing them. At the end of the day, the smartest clothing tip is probably the simplest one of all; wear things that make you feel confident, comfortable, and like yourself because when you get that part right, everything else tends to fall into place much more easily.
